Changing Face of New Zealand : New arrivals tell their stories

Author(s): Denny Newburn

Social Studies

The Changing Face of New Zealand looks at the increasing diversity in our society, focussing on new immigrants. Each chapter begins with an interview with students who belong to one of the cultures discussed in the text. Differences and similarities between people from different ethnic backgrounds are explored and students are asked to consider the positive side of belonging to a multi-cultural society with the intention of increasing understanding and tolerance. Students are also asked to reflect on the challenges faced by those new to New Zealand and some possible ways of helping newcomers meet these challenges. The author has written the text in a user-friendly, accessible style, to appeal to students at a range of levels. The book is well illustrated with numerous activities.
